During the 1990s and 2000s, the Butrint Foundation carried out a series of high-profile archaeological excavations and surveys on a grand scale in and around Butrint, much of it funded by very generous grants from the Packard Humanities Institute. The original data from the excavations comprise more than 40,000 written, drawn and photographic records. As well as carrying out archaeological investigations, the Foundation’s research into previous scientific work at Butrint yielded a series of historical documents and collections. Together, the two strands to the Foundation’s Butrint Archive provide a vast body of primary and secondary material for general interest and information and for academic research and reinterpretation.
The Butrint Foundation archive is held at the Waddesdon Archive at Windmill Hill, near Aylesbury. It is currently being catalogued and digitised to create an online resource, which will allow access to the wealth of data about the site, its environs and long history.
A sample of the archive is being added to these pages. Use the drop-down menu above to explore.
